Claw Tips
Claw is definitely a challenging and fun game. We've been playing Claw throughout its development cycle and some of us have gotten pretty darn good at the game. So, we decided to ask our top players for some tips to share with the rest of the world. Not everyone wanted to give away their best secrets so check back often-we'll get those secrets…even if we have to haul a few people 'round the keel!
Treasure Items:
- A small list of items for all of you treasure hunters out there.
General Tips:
- Pickup and throw the powder kegs instead of wasting precious ammo
- Only use magic if you can take out at least two enemies with one attack
- Jump and throw dynamite to get at those hard to reach places
- Use catnip to get items that are normally out of reach-but be quick about it!
- Extra lives are awarded every one million points-get all the treasure you can!
- Pickup and throw enemies whenever you can!
- Use the pistol and dynamite against enemies in the levels because these weapons normally do not work on the bosses.
- Always look for warps and secrets in the levels. The warp areas contain the best treasure, and they are the only way to get all of the treasure in the level.
- There is one super secret area in level 11, one in level 13, and one in level 14. You don't need catnip to get to these areas, and they are very tough to find... See if you can find them!
Defeating Specific Enemies:
- The only trick to defeating the Robber Thieves and Cutthroats on levels 3 and 4 is to dodge their arrows and knives.
- The white and brown Guard Dogs on levels 5 and 6 are very defensive. The pistol works well against them.
- The Bear Sailors on levels 7, 8, and 13 will try to grab you. If you get grabbed, press as many buttons and movements as you can very quickly to get out of the attack.
- Red Tail Pirates on levels 7, 8, and 13 hate to be punched. They are most vulnerable to an attack immediately after they swing at you.
- A quick way to defeat the crabs on level 8 is to use a Magic Claw.
- Peg Leg Pirates on levels 9 and 10 will be stunned if you hit them in their peg leg. They also hate to be punched.
- Crazy Hook Pirates on levels 9 and 10 will swing their hooks at you. After they swing, you can run in close to hit them.
- The Mercats on levels 11 and 12 will shoot tridents at you if they see you. Try to stay out of sight and come in for a sneak attack.
- The Sirens on level 11 and 12 will freeze you if they hit you with their attack so make sure that you rid the area of any Mercats before you get near the Sirens.
- The Royal Tiger Guards on level 13 hate to be picked up and thrown.
Defeating Bosses:
- Le Rauxe (level 2) hates truly aggressive attackers.
- Katherine (level 4) doesn't like to be picked up and thrown.
- Wolvington (level 6) has a very strong uppercut, but it can be dodged.
- Gabriel (level 8) cannot be damaged directly. Try using one of his attacks against him!
- When you fight Marrow (level 10), use the sound of the parrot to time his attacks, and when you attack Marrow, try standing on the moving bridge.
- Aquatis (level 12) can only be damaged by the stalagtites above him. A well placed dynamite throw might just do the trick.
- Never fight Red Tail (level 13) on the ground--stay as high as possible.
- Our top players would not comment on the way to defeat Omar (level 14). If you made it this far, you're darn good! You'll need to use your wits here. See if you can figure out the way to defeat the final boss!
Claw Cheat Codes
Those crazy programmers seem to spend half of their time adding cheat codes to the games. Why is that? Well, Claw is no different and has a large selection of cheat codes buried deep within the lines of code.
We've cracked a few of them. To use a cheat code, just type it in while playing Claw. If you make a mistake, just press the enter key to start over.
